    Hi kiwibabe;

Try this site http://www.192.com/ if you input the address, you should get the name & phone number, unless the number is unlisted. You could then make a phone call to be sure you have the correct folks.

    I hope this helps.

    Al.

I've tried this one, however as I currently have no credit card, I need her surname, as there is a charge for reverse directory, and its sunday night here so can't access the credit card problem. kind of going in circles.

    but thanks anyway

    Hi,

I know many major libraries in Australia hold St.Catherines House records on microfiche, maybe a phonecall to your nearest one in NZ monday might help with the surname?

Remember that Colchester is a garrison town however and therefore if you don't know much about your half sister and, if she married a soldier she could be anywhere.

But that in itself is not a problem, should it be the case. As MOD will pass on a letter to her husband, eve if retired as if he is pensioned they have a forwarding address, which they wont give you.

There is one service run by the government for finding relatives that is on the GRO website, although not obvious as it is low key.

The GRO run a traceline for finding relatives for you if you can provide them her date/place of birth. they use National Insurance number to see whether the person is receiving benefits or paying tax. If so they should have their address and if so will inform you that for £30 they will pass a letter on to their last known address (again they will not release the address).

I used this service myself about 3 years ago, but after checking their records they got back to me (about 2 weeks from my email) and informed me that my Aunt had just died but gave me her death reference so that I could trace my cousin (this was before the reference was in general circuation).

They do not charge if the person is not alive and contactable.

While this may not be either a quick or cheap way to trace someone, it may be an option if all else fails.

    Good luck

    Phillip

thankyou, I'll bear that one in mind, hopefully it wont come to that. I'm just a bit styymied by the time difference, I know where she is, but without a name I can't contact her.and the only number i have for our father is disconected. we have never met, but she wrote to me, but forgot to put her surname.

I know the problem with time, I'm divorced and have a little girl in Australia. 9hours time difference, it is so hard being able to contact her.

It seems you waste days trying to contact, miss your window and you have to wait again.

Don't worry good things are worth waiting for, if she wants to talk to you she will but if she doesn't there is nothing much you can do, so don't stress or lose sleep.

I can only find a D Goldie in the Colchester area (Ipswich).

As I don't have any pay site access, The only way I can think of tracing them if they have moved away is to ask if someone could search birth records for you with surname GOLDIE and mothers name FARTHING from 1992 to present and see whether they have moved area, if they are exdirectory not alot you can do other than using electoral rolls. Sorry been out of UK too long to help
