Thread: Pycroft family

Can anyone help me with information of James Pycroft b1823 he married Alice Johnson in Stockport 1855.

James father was called John and he was a lace maker.

James and Alice lived in Bury in 1856 when there son John was born the next child was James b1860 in Ashton under Lyne, then Sarah b1866 in Stockport.

The family lived in Ramsbottom where James d1870 and Alice d1889.

I have not been able to trace James father John I think he lived Nottinghanshire as he worked with lace.

Do you have James and Alice on the 1861 census, if so can you post details please?

I have James wife Alice in the 1871 census (James died in 1870) they were living at 1 Back Bolton Street Holcombe Bury Lancashire. I have not been able to located the family in any earlier census.



I don't know where James was born, I have a copy of his marriage certificate which gives his fathers name as John Pycroft and his Profession as a Lace maker.



I have a copy of the Buriel record showing he age was 47 and he livd at 1 Back Bolton Street, both James and Alice were buried at St Pauls Church Ramsbottom Lancashire.

If he was baptised in Mottram in Longendale he would presumably have been born there, or nearby, which tallies with 1841 census.



If you check the original parish register it may give you his father's occupation or mother's maiden name to confirm parentage.

John and Charlotte Pycroft from Mottramin Longdendale Cheshire is the wrong family.

I have checked these details out and there is no conection.

I feel James could have been born Nottinghamshire as this is a lace making area and John his father was a lacemaker.
