Thread: help me please- dugan/hunt family

Can someone give me some advice please, I've hit a bit of a brick wall. Trying to trace my great grandmother Ada Alice Dugan. She married my great grandfather Walter William Hunt in sept 1908 in Windsor. I have a copy of the marriage certificate which gives her fathers name as Alfred John Dugan, a carpenter of 4 bolton road, spital (which i believe is in Windsor). She was 29 when she married so i guess she was born in about 1879. I want to find out where she was born and more about Alfred and his family. Family recollections are that Ada was irish but i don't know how accurate that is!! Have found details of an Alfred and Ada Dugan in 1881 census living in Portsea Island, Hampshire.

Is it safe to assume that this is my Alfred and Ada or not?

Any ideas or suggestions would really help as this is starting to drive me slightly mad!!!!!

Ada Alice Dugan was registered in Portsea Island Sept 1878 .you can check this on free bmd Alfred john Dugan married portsea dec1874 but can't be sure of his wife do you know his wifes 1st name? The one from portsea married a jane emma or an annie.Also births show alfred john born june 1848 and another alfred bor sep 1880.might be yours good luck

Alfred Dugan (1881 census with dau Ada) living in Portsea, was a joiner by trade. As he and Ada match your criteria, ie carpenter, Ada born c.1879, I would say you have your Alfred and Ada.



The address on the marriage certificate will be where Ada was living, and if she had left home her parents address would have been different.

Having looked at the 1881, 1891 & 1901 census I'm sure this is the right Ada Dugan with father a joiner.

Alfred John Dugan married 1874 Dec qu Portsea Island & in view of his wife's name on the census being Jane its fairly safe to assume he married Jane Emma Morgan.

I think you're right, now have to try and discover Alfred's parents names and more info about them. This is never ending but oh so addictive!!!
