One more question. Are there any other William Eades born in 1853 or 1854 on the 1861 Census for the county of Hampshire? I'm pretty sure he was born in Winchester, but that's not the family I expected to find with him! So now I'm wondering if I have some wrong information here...
I was expecting his father to be another William Eades. Perhaps not.
Thanks again!

Easton is on the outskirts of Winchester
Doing Soundex doesn't help your cause!!

The 1821 William above is who I thought was the 1853 William's father.
Who is on his census with him please?
I have the 1853 William on the 1871, 81, 91 and 1901 census but for some reason can't get him on the 1861 census, when he would have still been at home with his family. The one you provided first with parents James and Fanny is the only one that comes close to matching though, which is odd.
More roadblocks I see! *laugh*

Oh! His middle name is Alfred and I found his DOB on FreeBMD as Dec 1853, Winchester, Hampshire, England. He married Sarah Ann Atkins in 1875 in Portsea but that's not really useful to my 1861 census search.
Just thought I'd provide more in case it was useful!
thanks again!

Could possibly help more if I knew where you are coming from.
If you are solid with 71 etc with young William and 53/54 is the birth year.
Easton is close enough to have been known as Winchester to those who lived there.
No doubt at all that James and Fanny are his parents.

Thanks so much Mark! Your help has been great!
I'm still trying to re-find the connection that led me to 1853 William Alfred Eades being the son of 1820ish William Eades and 1825ish Elizabeth (nee Bye). Tat's what I had, but now I think it's wrong, and I can't figure out how I got that connection in the first place.
The thing is that the familys tend to reuse names over and over, as I'm sure you know, and 1853 William Alfred had sons of Frederick John (1st born) and William Alfred (2nd born). There doesn't appear to be any Frederick John's in his wife Sarah Ann's (nee Atkins) family, so I assumed that name came from William's family.
Anyway, have a good few days away and perhaps we'll speak again in another week or so.

Hi Mark,
The list is not complete. I don't know where the list is from but a lot of parishes around the Winchester area did not allow the LDS to view their records.
