Thread: Irish church marriage problem

I obtained a copy of an Irish church(RC) marriage record from 1838 however the maiden name of the wife was not recorded.The info provided was date,location,husbands name.denomination of both,status,surname of husbands father and witnesses.

Is there any way I can find the brides maiden name.I was wondering if the childrens birth registration would have it?

If the children were born in England, a birth certificate will show the Mother's maiden name. I haven't done any research in Ireland, but I'm presuming the Mother's maiden would appear on a birth certificate if they were born in Ireland as well.

I don't think Irish births were subject to civil registration until 1855. You might find her maiden name in one of her children's baptisms - or maybe in the banns register.

When I obtained a copy of one of the children's parish baptism record the mothers maiden name was shown.Just lucky I guess but I still can not figure out why it was not shown on the marriage entry.
