    Default Help request Timms

Help needed Bicester births and census info for Albert Timms born 1892 !!

Can't find him in the IGI info for some reason it seems to have no records for Bicester.

Albert joined the army in 1914 and survived and married Harriett in 1919 and hadseveral children.

    Births Dec 1892

    Albert Timms Bicester 3a/795

    1901 Census

This looks like the most likely match.........

    RG13; Piece: 1391; Folio: 73; Page: 7.

Living at High St, Kidlington, Oxfordshire & all listed as born Kidlington.

    Alice Timms 10

    Bertie Timms 8

    Charles Timms 50 Labourer

    Ellen Timms 44

    Percy Timms 16 Cattleman

William Timms 14 Labourer on Farm

I can not see a Bert/Bertie/Albert listed as born Bicester...my knowledge of UK Geography is pathetic so I have no idea how close/far apart Bicester & Kidlington may be.

I hope that this is of some help, but you should start with Albert's marriage cert, then buy his birth cert using his father's name as given on the cert, as a reference when you buy his birth cert. That way you know that you are following the right person back.

Let me know if I can help you further.

Bicester is just up the road from Kidlington on the A34

although Kidlington is in the Ploughly registration district at the time you are interested:

I have a Timms family, two brothers Nicholas and Edward who married two Mathews sisters in my tree in the early 1800s. The daughter of one union married the son of the other (double cousins) and their 3 children all died before they were 30, and didn't have any children of their own, so I guess if there is a connection it must be pre-Nick & Ed's time. Their parents were Nicholas Tims of Hook Norton, Oxfordshire and Mary Salmon.

Hook Norton is just a few miles north west of Bicester.

Please contact me if you find a link and I will do likewise.

Thanks we knew from his army service record he was already living in at Quebec House Kelsale in Suffolk before his enlistment. Despite his wife living in London for a while during WW1 they lived out the rest of their lives in Kelsale so I'm not sure when he moved from Bicester yet or why.

There was no mention of his father in his service record either but I think he was born approximately 7th November 1892 in Bicester but not all of the service records were accurate as I have discovered with two other ancestors from Scotland who gave their birth dates incorrectly on enlistment. So now I'm going to need his birth certificate and marriage certificate and then I can pass the info along to other Albert Timms descendants. It seems he never talked about his own parents it was a taboo subject It's puzzling me why they seem to vanish from the census info I guess we'll find them eventually.

The only ones I found in the 1881 census who would have been the right age to be his father in 1890s were John and Thomas Timms born in the 1870s but as yet no other likely candidates. I'll chase these leads up further and once again many thanks.

    Hi

The Kidlington connection seems pretty good, considering the Bicester RD covers Bletchingdon, which is only four miles from Kidlington.

    Good luck

Well now you can add Charles & Ellen to that list of possible parents.

That's true it's possible he could be one of their children so I'm adding it to my family tree "to do list" for the new year.

Update....I'm going to order the marriage certificate this Friday so allowing a few days for posting and printing hopefully we'll have some info before the end of the month Then I can start working back through Albert's ancestors.

It looks like his mother was Emma Timms and his father was Henry Grace I'm assuming Albert was illegitimate and don't know the circumstances yet as to what happened to his mother. Still got loads to find out here
