If there are any Adopted Adults or Birth Relatives who would like to join then I will be pleased to help.

HELLO, I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO FIND THE BIRTH MOTHER OF MY MOTHER WHO WAS BORN IN 1903 WITH NO SUCCESS. I AM INFORMED THAT BECAUSE SHE NEVER ASKED FOR THE DOCUMENTS TO BE OPENED BEFORE HER DEATH THERE IS NOTHING I CAN DO. I THINK I MAY KNOW THE SURNAME, CAN ANYONE HELP ME PLEASE. STELLA

Adoption was not legalised or documented until around 1925 ish.Therefore many children were bought up with other people and they would just use the surname of the family that they lived with.



It is highly unlikely that records of any kind still exist so you will have to turn detective and ask older family members

I have just begun researching my pre-adoption parents and I have two names - James William Lothian from Clydebank in Glasgow and Brenda Taylor from Blackpool - in 1957.

Every snippet of information is important - any tips welcome

am trying to find birth parents as my birth records have been destroyed
