Thankyou for the reply, I'm quite new to this and didn't know how much info to put and didn't realise people would help in this way, i thought it was just a case of people seeing if anything matched in their tree so sorry for the lack of info!



I'm rather confused, I have the birth certificate for Joseph Andrew Attwood born November 1853 which states his parents as Joseph Attwood (deceased) and Harriet Whittingham so know for sure his father died in 1853, born 1805/6. I cant find a marriage entry for Attwood/Whittingham.

This is 1841 census I think is correct and Joseph appears to be living with his mother and siblings working as a labourer

Found a possible christening on IGI

only Mothers Name Listed Sarah Male



it may be that Sarah was unmarried at the time Harriet was born later married a Mr Whittingham and Harriet took his name, or Harriet knew her father was Mr Whittingham & parents never married



This has happened in my Family Tree a Child Christened with mothers maiden name, but took mothers new married name and used that surname when she got married.

Rather too much info than a dearth every time!!!!!



Harriet reckons she was b in Kingswinford. The only Whittinghams having children there during the 18teens are Thomas and Sarah, but no mention of Harriet!!



Harriet Christopher chr Kingswinford 10 May 1829 parents James and Elizabeth.

Aged 8 in 1841. Should be 28!! Parents still alive both 55 which means 55-60!!

James is an Inn Keeper, which may or may not connect!!

This is possible!

John Wasdell/ale fits exactly, the wife of Jospeh Attwood 1853-1910 is Mary Wasdell, i have her birth certificate and her parents are Benjamin Wasdell 1816-1899 and Eliza Smart, married 1842, on the 1841 census Benjamin is listed with John Wasdell aged 50 and Mary aged 50



I am still confused with the Harriet issue! dont quite know what to think on her!
