I am looking at the 1871 census and there are two listings for elizabeth richardson married to James (born in Durham).



The first is born abt. 1844 in Bishop Wearmouth. Living in Sunderland with Husband James and children;

its probably the other of the 2 census you have found, on the 1871 census I have for them they have one daughter Elizabeth born 1868,

my James Richardson was born 1840 Durham, his wife Elizabeth Potts was born 1843 Durham

Are Ralph and Elizabeth James's parents?

yes, Ralph Richardson 1811-1869 and Elizabeth Ayer 1813-? married 1838 Sunderland are the parents of James. Ralph and Elizabeth are as far back as I have though, I have no details on either of their parents as yet On the 1851 census Elizabeth and all the children including James are in Sunderland Union Workhouse, can't find a census showing Ralph for 1851 or 1861.



I have nothing on James wife Elizabeth Potts either apart from thier marriage date. Found one Elizabeth Potts on census where the date of birth is right but she is also on following years past the date of thier marriage so it can't be her.
