    Default George Fletcher

    hello

I'm looking for a George Fletcher who was my great grandfather. He was born in Wakefield in 1856/7 to John Fletcher( who was a railway inspector ).His wifes name i do not know.George married a Mary Maddison from Normanton b.1868 {aged 19 on marriage cert} Mary gave birth to Wm. henry fletcher (my grandfather ) in Stanley Union Workhouse in June 1890 as George was said to have died in a pit accident c1889/90.There is no trace of his death certificate and his name is not listed in accident archives. Also there is no trace of Mary Maddison ever being in Normanton as no census includes her.Im about to give up on this after years of work !!please can anybody help me !!

    hello Welsh Ladyand Slizzy

thanks a bunch for replying so fast .

yes i have considered all these entries and have 'claimed' John the spinner as my relative but something is nagging me that its not him. I looked for him in the 1891 census to see if he had changed his job ,but hes not there. If this is him ,his son George left home between 1871 and 1881 but theres no sign of george in any lodgings at this time The address on the marriage cert says High Street and he is 31 years old.He is a miner at the time .Witnesses are

Henry B Emmitt and William Hutchison (at least that 's what it looks like.)

Marys father is a John William Maddison and he was a 'pit -sinker' which i think is coal mining.Mary was expecting eldest daughter Martha at the time and i wondered wether she had lied about her age as the only Mary i can find was born in 1872 and her father was a greengrocer

Mary married a Thomas M Ward and appearson the 1901 census stating she was born in Normanton. Does this help?
