Thread: Pre 1914-18 War Deaths

Can anyone tell me how a death of a soldier/sailor on active service abroad was registered prior to 1914? It would presumably be on his service record but finding that can be an expensive and often fruitless exercise. However, if I have to go down that route, so be it. I was just hoping that there were some sort of overall records kept and certificates issued.
