Default Thomas Lazenby (Yorkshire) Looking for death record

    Hi all

Need some help finding this death. Pulling my hair out, what's left of it.

Thomas Lazenby bap. Sep 1817 (Pontefract) to John Lazenby & Mary Ann Heesom).

Family then moved to Wakefield and both Thomas and John (his father) are shoe/bootmakers living separately in Westgate / Northgate areas in 1841 and 1851 census records.

Thomas m. Maria Smith 24 Dec 1840 (I have cert) and I also have them on 1841 census.

On 1851 census I have Thomas (34), Maria (32) and children (Ann 9, John 7, Edwin 5, Sarah 3 & Lucy Ann 9 months) living Barratts Yard, Northgate.

No record on 1861 of any of the family apart from Sarah (now aged 13) living in Huddersfield as a servant. Where are the other children at this time? Did the family not get included in the census. Most of the children re-appear in the 1871 census.

However, I have Maria Lazenby death cert, 2 Aug 1861, in Providence Street, Wakefield, aged 43 and she is shown as Widow of Thomas. Ann (married name Baines) her oldest daughter acts as informant, also of Providence Street, Wakefield. Ann and her husband Charles Baines don't appear on the 1861 either.

I have a list of 14 Thomas Lazenby deaths (from GRO indices cross checked to FreeBMD) locations countrywide but none in Wakefield for the period Mar 1851 to Dec 1861 and only alternative is to order these in the hope that one is correct.

Where and when did Thomas die? Has anyone got good access to parish records in Wakefield?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Perhaps the 1861 census parts are missing. I know that there are some pieces which haven't survived.

Alternatively they could be very badly mistranscribed.

You could contact the relevant local register office. It's possible Thomas did die in Wakefield but the copy certificate didn't arrive at the GRO, or was misindexed.

    Thanks for the swift reply.

Have looked at various sources that list missing indices from the 1861 and Wakefield doesn't feature. Have carried out various manual searches by street name (rather than surname) in the same area at centre of Wakefield but no joy. Have also tried different surname and wordex spellings plus just by Christian name and ages on Ancestry. I'm wondering whether because Thomas was dead and Maria was perhaps dying that there was no responsibility to ensure they were enumerated in 1861.

Looks like the route is the local register office or parish registers. He's about the only Lazenby I've had trouble with.

    Cheers for now.

    Hello welshlady

    Thanks for looking.

I've already seen the Edwin Lazenby you found in the 1861 but he is the one as per the IGI details below and is about 10 years too old. His birth place of St Mous on the census is probably same as St Maurice, York.

My Edwin was born in 1846 in Wakefield and in the 1871 is in Stockton working as a Fitter.

    Thanks very much anyhow
