Thread: Stockwell Millions + family

Hey i was wondering if anyone has any information ont he stockwell family..



My great Uncle started the search on the family tree and has able to create a tree dating from 1691 - JOHN STOCKWELL (so ive been told he was a pirate and smuggler, who sailed under Captain kidd + captain teach)

and has able to create a line leading down to me..



so i've been handed down the job of finding out and continue to build the family tree .. and to find out about the stockwell millions .The stories that i've been told is when john stockwell died Mrs Angells + their son, john kept hold of the estate until she had a religious conversation and gave the estate to the church as she did not want to be associte with blood money - but im not sure if this true?



If anyone has information on the stockwell + or the millions.. it would much appreciated.

Who is Mrs Angells? Whenabouts are you talking? And why do you suppose there were "millions"?

the time ive been told is about 1691..



and mrs Angells is someone im trying to figure out ..and how she fits in? .. all i know is that her and John stockwell had a illegitatment son .



and its an estate that worth millions, it has always been spoke about with in the family, and what ive been given by my great uncle are letters dating back to 1932, which all mention the stockwel millions + also some of 200 decendents? went to court to get the estate back ..but failed..



im just trying to find out what the big deal is about this estate and why its so important .. but im reaching dead ends.

In july 1930 a George Edward Bloodworth held meetings in his tailors shop in Prince Street in BRISTOL. These meetings were

as a result of an advert he had placed in a national paper seeking out people who felt that like him that they were heirs to an

unclaimed £60M fortune based on property in the BRIXTON area of London.

This involved the Stockwell, Angell and Bloodworth families.

I am curious what it was all about? Did it exist? Reports of these meetings were said to be in the BRISTOL papers of that

time.

Stockwell is the name of an area near Brixton as well as the family name. There's a nearby place called Angell Town, so I guess this is the area. I imagine that the relevant records office would have information about the land and its owners.

This link http://www.british-history.ac.uk/rep...x?compid=49771 has a history of Angell Town and the various members of the Angell family, though I cannot see any links to a Stockwell family.



It says



"several law suits began after the death of John Angell, junior, in 1784, (ref. 162) and again the copyhold estate was seized by the Lord. (ref. 163) In 1786 Benedict John Angell Brown was admitted to the estate, (ref. 153) but in 1790 an entry in the court rolls proclaimed that this admittance was a mistake and that by the custom of the Manor, William Brown, Benedict's brother, was the rightful heir, being the youngest son of Benedict Brown, who had been John Angell's heir. (ref. 164) Both William and Benedict adopted the name of Angell (which had been stipulated by John Angell in his will) (ref. 165) and were subsequently known as William Brown Angell and Benedict John Angell Angell."

Hi just googled my surname and read your note on the stockwell millions, So my dad was telling the truth about the pirates,He also said he thought the money went to an area of london ,now called stockwell. if you find the millions Im a relly , good hunting Jennifer Birch nee Stockwell,
