Thread: Help for a novice

Hi folks, My elderly mother is desperate to trace her family history and has very little info. I have agreed to help and have already spent hours and lots of credits and hav"nt added anything to the search. I have a birth certificate of my mums father with his parents names and an address where he was born. How do i best use this info? He was born in 1902 so is not on 1901 cencus. We want to go back 1 or generations if possible. kind regards. Royalclair

Hi royalclair - if you have the names of his parents you could look for their marriage on freeBMD for a start.

Or you could post the details you have from the certificate and someone will try to help you get started

Hi, what is the name of your grandfathers parents...on his birth certificate, they should be on the 1901 census.

On the same page are 2 possible brides: Annie Tinley and Mary Jane Shellaker.

1901 census. Living Bournemouth, St Clements parish. I can't read Francis' occupation, though it's sausage something maybe agent. Address 174, Holdenhurst? Road.
