    Default Need extra eyes help

    I need some extra eyes help. I just got my ggg-grandfathers death cert. My ggg-grandfather was John Stanley. He was born in 1822 in Ireland. His father was John Stanley, his mother was Mary. John is suspected of having left, probably in the 1840's during the famine. John ended up in Quebec, Canada, where he married and had family. Before 1870 they all left and went to Newbury, VT. Now this is where you come in. I need help, if possible, to locate his family, his birth place, birth date, etc. Oh, John was also Protestant. I was told that his faith makes a differnce, probably, to where he was from in Ireland. What i need is the help of someone who maybe has access to Irish birth records, or finds a family web site, that may have possible connections to my John Stanley with parents John and Mary. I have been forever trying to find my John' family history in Ireland. The death cert. is a step forward and I know it's not alot, but this is as far as I'm ever going to get. I just thought that while I look, someone here could look too and maybe give me some web pages, John Stanley birth's, etc to look at. Any assistance is appreciated.

    Hi Morgan;

    I don't have any Irish records, however, one step at a time. You say John STANLEY came to Québec, Canada before going to Vermont, USA.

    Here's what I found on the 1880 US census at http://www.familysearch.org/eng/sear...B=1&frompage=5

    Household:

    Name Relation Marital Status Gender Race Age Birthplace Occupation Father's Birthplace Mother's Birthplace

    John STANLEY Self M Male W 56 IRE Works In Paper Mill IRE IRE

    Anna STANLEY Wife M Female W 53 CAN Keeping House SCOT SCOT

    Isabel STANLEY Dau S Female W 24 CAN Servant SCOT SCOT

    Gilbert STANLEY Son S Male W 22 CAN Works In Paper Mill IRE SCOT

    David STANLEY Son S Male W 20 CAN Works In Furniture Shop IRE SCOT

    Margarett STANLEY Dau S Female W 16 CAN IRE SCOT

    Henry M. STANLEY Son S Male W 4 VT --- CAN

    Charles RICHARDSON Other S Male W 20 CAN Works In Paper Mill IRE CAN

    Source Information:

    Census Place Newbury, Orange, Vermont

    Family History Library Film 1255345

    NA Film Number T9-1345

    Page Number 115C

    I looked at your dates and John would have been in Canada more than 30 years, so I looked at land grant records. I found this on Collections Canada;

    http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/d...ey&interval=36

    Name Given Name Page Microfilm Volume STANLEY Henry 40 C-96 79 STANLEY John 44 C-96 79

    You can probably order a copy of the land grant microfilm at your local library or FHC (Family History Centre) through the Interlibrary Loan System.

    Now the Charles RICHARDSON on the 1880 census was also born in Canada and is listed as other relationship, he could be a friend or cousin etc. The Henry M STANLEY looks to be too young to be the son of John STANLEY, so perhaps he's the son of one of the unmarried daughters. Since Henry was born in VT and Margarett was born in Canada, your timeline fits for the family moving south after 1870. If you are luck, they didn't move until after the 1871 census and you could find them there. This census isn't online, but you can order one through interlibrary loan to your local public library or perhaps your local library has a copy or through your local FHC.

    I hope this helps.

    Thank you very much Al. Charles Richardson Was Anna Stanley' nephew. The family left bef 1870, the 1870 census for Newbury, VT, did not state anything more informative. I did at one time find John on the Quebec, Canada 1851/1852 (?) census. That stated nothing as well. But the Land Grant info you provided looks interesting. I'll look into that. Atleast I have another name to look into. As far as I know Anna Stanley nee Thomas had no Henry relatives. I might not find anything further under John, but if he came to Quebec with any rellies, I might be able to solve the Stanley mystery with info on them. Thanks agian. BTW. You are under the same mind as me with the child Henry.
