Thread: john morris of newport, pembs.born c.1815

Having trouble locating a bapt. and parents for John Morris born about 1815 at Newports, Pembs.

For a long time we thought that we had the correct bapt. and parents with the one bapt.8th.aug.1815 at Thomas and Jane(nee Owens).

But this has proved to be wrong as this John died at sea with the crew of his ship. As did his father.

The strange thing is that we know Johns grandparents as Thomas Morris and Eleanor (nee Griffiths). We know this because John (1815) was at Ebbw Vale with his uncle Joshua, who was bapt.5th.july 1805 at Nevern.

So to sum up, we have John bapt 1815 stated at Newport, Pembs. on later census.

Joshua, his uncle, bapt. Nevern. As were his siblings, Rachel,Anne,John,Benjamin, Caleb,Elenor and Mariah.

What weare lacking is a brother for Joshua who would prove to be the father of John (1815). All of the brothers of Joshua that we know are too young to be Johns father.

Perhaps your John was illegitimate and therefore his mother was a Miss Morris, one of Joshua's sisters?

Must admit, that is one thought that has eluded me.

Should know better after all these years.
