    Default Looking for Berkshire baptism

    Hi!

I am looking for the baptism of my 4th great grandmother Maria Cross please? Would be very grateful for a look-up.

She was born 1803 in Windsor. Sorry I can't give more info.

Though, according to a number of trees on a******y.com she was one of the illegitimate children of Edward Augustus the Duke of Kent.

As yet I haven't seen anything that would substantiates such a claim....Which is probably a good thing, as I'm all out of tiara's.

    Many thanks!

    Default Maria Cross 1803

    Hi there,

Did you have any luck finding the baptism records for Maria Cross? Or have information about her mother?

She went on to marry James Plumridge a gardener who migrated to New Zealand with their two daughters Sarah Ann Plumridge (b. 1830) and Eliza Plumridge (b.1828) in 1841 The Clifford Ship: http://www.reocities.com/wlorac/clif1842.txt

    Thanks! Claire

Hard to believe such a well connected lady would travel steerage to New Zealand! Her mother "Cross" seems unkown. I guess anyone can claim royal connections
This lady connects our humble selves to George the III.

I would be more inclined to contact the National Archives in regards to Maria's Baptism? Many of us commoners have ties to past Monarchs/Nobility but its finding the connection and being able to prove it..Also many past Kings and Queens had mistresses or lovers regardless if they were married or not that they had a child with and some of those births went unrecorded..Good luck with your researching and I hope you find the answer to your question Claire..

Claire, Having read a little on Edward Augustus the Duke of Kent I question if in fact he was in England from 1802/1803 and not in Gibraltar..?

    Default Maria Cross baptisim

I believe Maria Cross's (my 3rd great grandmother) baptism records are most likely to be:
    26 Mar 1802
    St Mary at Lambeth
    Surrey
    Lambeth
    William Cross, (father)
    Mary Cross (mother)
    Baptism
    Parish Register

    regards
    Sue
