    Default Remittance Passengers

    Hello!!

Would anyone know where I could find application papers for remittance passengers please?

My 2nd great grandparents William Jones & Eliza Jane Martin along with their two daughters Mary and Edith sailed from London on October 4th, 1874 onboard the Gauntlet to Australia. I was hoping I could get copies of these documents.

It might be wishful thinking on my behalf, but I’m hoping these papers might give info on William’s parents. After much searching I haven’t been able to find William’s birth, only his 1870 marriage which has his fathers name John Jones; occupation, shoemaker/ boot maker. William’s mother’s name is not given, but the family thinks her name was Martha Morris.

The family lived in the Birkenhead area.

Would really appreciate any assistance in helping me find where I might find these documents please.

    Many thanks!!

    Hi

You could try the passenger list of the ship that they sailed on - or contact the Immigration Dept Achives of the State that they went to in Australia - the local libaries ( in Australia and UK ) are very good at helping

A Remittance or Nominated Passage - was by a warrant issued from the Government , in this case the government of the state to which they went -who then arranged a passage for the person.

    Hi Tawney,

I have been able to get a copy of the ship manifest, which has helped with a few questions I had. I'll check out the Immigration Dept Achives.

Really appreciate you taking the time to offer some really helpful advice.

    Thank You!!

    Kind regards,

    Sharcra
