Hi
My 4xgreat grandfather was called George Coombs born c1790. He wed Sarah in around 1810. I think Sarah was later known as Sarah Bradford. I am having difficulty finding any reference to George other than through his childrens baptisms and marriages. He was a coachman.
I descend from his so William Thomas Coombs born in Soho, London in 1828. George seems to vanish after his sons 1830 baptism. I cannot find him in any census.
One relative has a suggestion that he may have had a different first name. Although I am not sure.
On his 4 childrens baptisms, he states George, and when the 2 sons get married, they say his name is George and when the first son was born in 1812 he was baptised Matthew George Coombs, son of George and Sarah, so give the middle name after the fathers first name so why do that if George wasnt his proper first name if his eldest child and grandchildren all were baptised wth George as a middle or first name? Matthew uses George as a middle name for his children when he later marries.
In 1835 and 1845 Matthew wed at the same church in Paddington, a parish he didnt usually live in. In 1851, a Thomas Coombs aged 56 born in Westminster is living down the same road that Matthew had lived for a short while in 1845 before moving back towards East London where he usually lived.
Thomas Coombs was baptised in 1792 in St Margaret Westminster, son of Thos & Sarah and had two known older brothers William Thomas Coombs born in 1787 and William Coombs born in 1789. I cannot find any other siblings as yet.
Ben
