    Default New York birth

Can anyone tell me where to find the birth record for someone born in New York city circa 1854? Is there a US version of FreeBMD??

    Thanks in advance

    Hi Davidicus,

I can't find any records before 1891. Reading this, I am not sure if there will be any.

    Hi

USA - land of the free (not including BMD records as far as I know).

Ancestry.com (international version) allows you to search the US Federal censuses (every 10 years) and the state censuses (where they exist), New York marriages 1600s to 1800s and NY City Births 1891-1902 and Deaths 1892-1902. Be warned- before the 1900s, only 75% of births were registered, so you might be better searching the censuses. Need a look up?

Alternatively, it will cost $15 for a search to be made in the NYC Records Office. http://www.nyc.gov/html/records/html...ds/birth.shtml

I have already checked this version.

Thanks again. Guess I'll try the NYC Records Office. I'll report back with anything possibly useful to anyone else.
