Thread: Help finding family of Maurice Henry Stephenson Young

My grandfather, Maurice Henry Stephenson Young, died in Newcastle upon Tyne in 1927. He worked in the Coalmines. His brother J.Young and his children also lived there at the time. I have searched the registrar for his birth records but have been unable to find anything. According to my father's notes he was born in Sandhurst, England. I could only find his death certificate. Would much appreciate it if anyone can me find any information of our family in England. Thanks Melodyb

How old was Maurice when he died? Who was the informant? Do you know roughly when he married and who his wife was? The marriage certificate should give their fathers names.

Hello Ben, My Grandfather died at the age of 65 at the Royal Victoria Infirmary. His brother J. Young of 17 Ryehill, Newcastle upon Tyne was the informant. My grandfather's address at the time was Cowgate, Pandon, NC. He married my Grandmother, Wilhelmina Petronella Burger in 1903 in South Africa. He returned to England soon after WW1. I have been unable to find his military records. The family say he served in the Navy in WW1. He possibly served in the South African war in 1898-1902. All I have is a photograph of my grandparents with my father at about the age of 10 taken just before WW1 with my father holding the British Flag. I remember my dad saying that we have Scottish ancestry. It is said that my great Grandfather was a Captain Robert Young. Thanks so much for your interest. Regards Melodyb

I can't find any trace of Maurice's birth or any census record - can anyone else help please?

Hi Gillian Thanks for your efforts. I think that my grandfather's brothers name may have been Joseph Young. I am not sure if his middle names may also have been Henry Stephenson. I was thinking if I could find his death certificate which would have been after 1927, I may be closer to finding out if there are any living relatives in England. His address on my grandfather's death registration was 17 Rye Hill, Newcastle upon Tyne. Thanks for your help. Melodyb

Have you tried to locate his marriage certificate through the Regimental Registrations of BDM ? They are a seperate register of BDM kept by the Army & Navy (and later on Air Force). I found several births this way.

Have you been able to find any of Maurice's family on censuses? If not, then maybe they started off with different names.

Maybe this is him and the Young bit was added later?
