I need help finding the parents of Hugh Clark born 1797, Monkland, Lanarkshire, he married Mary Templeton 1822, Cumbrae.

Sorry Laurie - I looked on ScotlandsPeople but couldn't find a Hugh Clark born in the area around that date

thanks for looking, when he married the bans were read in Cumbrae and Monkland, Lanarkshire so I am thinking that was his town of birth.

On 1851 census he gives place of birth as Ayr. I which case I think it is this one -

18 May 1798 Riccarton Ayr - baptism Hugh Clark, parents Hugh Clark & Janet Lindsay
