Default Finding a burial in Liverpool

I have a copy of the death certificate of my husbands great grandfather.

He died in 1923 in West Derby which is in Liverpool.

Does anyone have any ideas about how I might start to look for where he is buried - his wife/partner was probably catholic.

Any sugestions would be most welcome

Here's a link to searchable Liverpool cemeteries databases. I don't know whether it covers the year you're looking for but worth a look.

    Hi Jo

My ggrandad died 1920's in West Derby. He was buried in West Derby cemetery (actually in Croxteth). Other big cemeteries of the time were Kirkdale cemetery (on Longmoor Lane), Walton cemetery and Toxteth Park (on Smithdown Rd).

Liverpool City Council may be able to help, but I think they need to know the exact date of the burial.

    Thanks

I don't know the exact date for the burial. Is there a way to find this out?

If his wife was catholic and had control of the arrangements would any of these be likely or would he have been buried in a specifically Catholic cemetery do you think?

    Hi Jo

The large cemeteries were run by Liverpool Corporation (I think) and may have different sections for different religions.

Can't think of a way to find exact date of burial, except maybe a death notice in a local paper of the day (probably the Liverpool Echo).

I have found Liverpool Council to be quite good at helping, but couldn't guarentee it. It costs nothing to send an e-mail, with any info you have.

Edit - there is a good site called "old-liverpool.co.uk" which has a lot of searchable cemetery information.
