Thread: George Cornish

Hi Good Peoples,

Trying to trace movements of the following family:

George Cornish (b @ 1840), father of Ann (b @ 1869); both born and lived in South Weald, Essex (Billericay Registry). George's wife appears to be Elizabeth Harmer (or Warner) from Sheringham, Norfolk.

Ann married Thomas May in Hampstead in 1892.

Trying to establish:

a> If the Cornish's, or Ann alone moved to Hampstead

b> George's parents (thought to be William & Elizabeth), and where they came from.

think I have found George and Elizabeth on the 1861 Census living with Elizabeth and Daniel Byford. George is listed as the son of the head of the household. Transcribed as Comish. Looks as if Elizabeth(George's mother) remarried. Elizabeth the wife of George is noted as born in Norfolk..

Not having much luck finding them in 1851c

found what I think is Ann on the 1891 Census.. She is a domestic servant in the house of Frederick Turner a retired Missionary. There is an Alice Cornish age 14 as a domestic as well.

Hi All,

The Byford connection certifies these as being the right ones (from information I have found on someone elses family tree).

Ann's move to Hampstead is another brilliant piece of detective work.

It would be useful to see if we can find Elizabeth's (William's wife) birthplace.
