Thread: Connell-Woolley marriage

Can anyone help me track down the marriage of Edward Connell to Mary Ann Woolley? I know that Edward was born in about 1821 in Tipperary, and Mary Ann in about 1828 in Kidderminster. According to their son Martin's birth certificate Mary Ann may have been married previously to someone named Holly.



Hope someone can help, this line has been driving me mad!

The first child (that I am aware of) was born in 1860 in Wednesbury, Staffs.

Can't see it on Freebmd. I suggest you contact the relevant local register office (ie for Wednesbury) and ask if they can help. Sometimes copies of marriages didn't make it to the GRO.



If its any consolation, I have a 2nd marriage for my gt grandmother Emma Moore that I can't find. I know 1st husband Thomas Matthews died 1st May 1879 (14th wedding anniversary) and Emma turns up less than 2 years later on 1881 census with 2nd husband John Garvie but I haven't found the marriage yet.

What exactly does Martin's birth certificate say about Mary Ann's name.

I see that on the 1861 census there are children Luke and ? Rosannah Killey recorded as lodgers living with the Connells. In 1851 Luke Kilty is grandson living with Luke and Sarah Woolley. Looks as if they are possibly Mary Ann's children?

I actually posted a message about this earlier - the certificate has the mother's name as Mary Ann Connell, late Holly, formally Woolley. However, the name "Holly" could actually be "Killy" - its not very clear! Whichever it may be, it certainly seems to be the case that Mary Ann was married before, and possibly had children. There is also a census entry (possibly 1891) with a Mary Ann Connell living with a Roseanna (sp) Hughes.

Looking at it again it does look like it could be Kelly - my detective skills noticed that what I thought was an "H" was not the same script as in "House".



If that is the case, and what you have found is correct, she married Edward sometime between the death of her 1st husband in 1857 and the birth of their 1st child in 1860.. Could the marriage possibly be registered under her married name "Kelly" rather than maiden name "Woolley"?
