Thread: Lawton Siblings

I'm trying to trace siblings of my paternal Grandfather Frederick Lawton



All listed on 1901 census:

Head of Household: James Lawton - 37 - b 1864 Widnes Lancs

Wife: Mary J Lawton(nee Beesley) - 38 - b 1862 Ditton Lancs

Daughter: Ellen A Lawton - 16 - b 1885 Prescot Widnes Lancs

Daughter: Emily(Emma) Lawton - 15 - b 1886 Prescot Lancs

Daughter: Mary Jane Lawton - 11 - b 1889 Prescot Lancs

Daughter: Marg(Maggie, Margaret) Lawton - 10 - b 1891 Prescot Lancs

Son: James Lawton - 8 - b 1893 Prescot - d 1902 Prescot Lancs

Daughter: Cissy(Cissie, Sissie, Sissy) Lawton - 4 - b 1896 Prescot Lancs

Daughter: Alice Lawton - 1 - b 1899 Prescot Lancs

Son Frederick Lawton - 2m - b 1900 Prescot Lancs

There may also have been other children, possibly Doris b 1903 and Nellie b 1906/7



I have married names, according to Frederick's obit dating 1948, for:

Alice - Bennett

Emily - Gandy

Nellie - Briggs

Doris - Carney



I've looked through FreeBMD, Cheshire BMD and Lancashire BMD and apart from their births and possible marriages I have been unable to locate any details for any of them

Any help would be appreciated

I've found one!!!

Just thought I'd add to this thread - I've found Ellen Ann Lawton.

Grandpa Fred emigrated to Canada in 1929 but came back for a visit in 1945. I got the new incoming passenger lists for that period and he had a Preston address listed. After a lot of googling I found a James Henry Briggs, Mother Mrs Nellie Briggs, for the same address. A random email then produced a death for Mrs Ellen Ann Briggs, age is correct and Mothers maiden name for James Henry is correct - so I have one sis!

One down - Five to go!

Do you have any information for earlier Lawton's.



My GG Grandmother was Mary Annie Wilson born 1874 in Rockhampton Queensland. Her parents were Simeon Lawton Wilson b 1843 Staley Bridge Cheshire and Betty Andrew c 1849 Cheshire. Simeon's father was James Lawton Wilson b 1817 Staley Bridge and Sarah Lawton b 1819 Charlesworth Derbyshire England. Her father was John Lawton b c 1786 Charlesworth and died 1870 Moorgate Cheshire.



The middle name of Lawton appears right through my Wilson family so it appears a Wilson married a Lawton somewhere in the middle 1700's at least if not earlier than that.

Simeons Father = James Lawton Wilson b1817

Simeons Mother? = Sarah Lawton b1819 - Father = John Lawton bc1796



If so familyorg. has James Lawton Wilson b1817 Staleybridge - parents James Wilson + Betty



Chances are Betty could of been a Lawton and thats where the name follows through.



I have a John Lawton in my tree b c1748, married Mary Hall 1767 - children, found so far, Thomas b 1768 + James b 1769 - but they are all Warrington

I have the Wilson's back to John Wilson c 1757 and his wife was Martha Unknown c 1761. Their son James b 1783 was married to Betty Booth so she was not a Lawton. They are the parents of James Lawton Wilson b 1817. I have 6 children for them from 1810 to 1824 but they were married in 1805 in Lancashire so there are probably children from around 1806 to 1810 as well.



So the John Lawton you have b c 1748 and Mary Hall could be the parents of our John Lawton bu possibly the Grandparents of my John Lawton b c 1786. The information I received on John Lawton c 1786 his wife is Lady Unknown b c 1790 both born Charlesworth Derbyshire. It seems the majority of Lawtons I found were all from around Derbyshire, Cheshire, Lancashire and Yorkshire areas.



The only child I have for John Lawton and Lady Unknown is Sarah b 1819.

I couldnt say for definite if the two John Lawtons are the same, its a possibility. But I only seem to have Lawtons from the Warrington/Widnes area
