John Simmonds married Elizabeth Aldridge June 1866 (Eastbourne 2b 93)

If I have the right one, John was born in Ditchling and Elizabeth possibly in East Grinstead (or Eastbourne... differs on various records!)

Found all history after 1871 census but have no information at all on either set of parents in order to go back further.

('A' level challenge for those who have read "Wyatt's of Earnley"!!!)

Hi,

Do you have approx date of birth for John and Elizabeth? what was Johns occupation do you know? failing that you may need to apply for the marriage certificate to find out who their father's were, once you have done this we can then check cencus returns to take your research further back.

From 1871 Census both John and Elizabeth would have a bd of @ 1841 +/- a year.

This is what I have from 1891; the key is John B (Bernard) Simmonds who I have evidence for. (Note the age discrepancy with the 1871 entry you have.

Presumably Harry & Albert have gone by this time too, But John going from police constable to labourer?

Yes I did notice the age difference and also police man to labourer but being honest without knowing for sure who the parents of John and Elizabeth are we could go round in circles for quite a time lol..



It sounds like you may have the birth cert for John Bernard which verified John and Elizabeth as his parents but I would advise getting the marriage cert for John and Elizabeth to be sure..



I have a police constable in my tree (verified) who then goes to coal miner
