Default Walter Hugh Sebire - Guernsey

    Hello Everyone

This is my first post so I am keeping my fingers crossed that help is on the horizon as I am truly stuck.

Walter Hugh Sebire was born on Guernsey in 1880. I have parents and siblings. I can follow him to 1904 when I think he went to Philadelphia from Liverpool? Then I have found records of him in the Royal Engineers during the First World War when he went to Egypt. His address at this time was in Guernsey. I have a copy of his MIC and have checked the CWGC and his name is not on the Roll of Honour so he survived the war. From then onwards, have found no more information and don't really know where to look. Help!!!!!

    Kind regards,

    Robinetta

I looked to see if he is in the WW1 pension records but he isn't. Don't know what to suggest, as he could have gone anywhere after leaving the RE. sorry!

The Philadelphia passenger list says he was in transit to Toronto. I wonder if he went back to Canada after the war?

I actually read on the internet last night that the Liverpool to Philadelphia route was often the route to Canada but I hardly gave it a second thought! How good are you? Now I can search in Canada. Thanks so much Gillian.

    Kind regards,

    Hi

Just to give an update to my search so far.

I have made a search and have not found Walter Hugh Sebire in Canada.

So wonder if he went back to Guernsey.

So still looking for a marriage or death for Walter Hugh Sebire born on Guernsey in 1880. Father William T Sebire (b 1837 on Alderney, Channel Islands) and Mother Elizabeth Sebire (b 1841 on Jersey, Channel Islands).

    Kind regards,

    Robinetta

The society of genealogists library hold some Guernsey bmd indexes - though they don't have more recent dates. I'll have a look when I next visit.

There is a slight possibility of a link with my Jersey Family – My distant relativeAda Maud Gosling (St Helier) married Henry Carter Sebire who was born on September 1, 1875.

I suggest that you check www.jerseyheritagetrust.jeron.je/home.html > Archive > Name (at least 50 ‘Sebire’ people listed)

http://societe-jersiaise.org > links to many areas of interest incl www.societe-jersiaise.org/photographic-archive/heroes-rediscovered.html

http://societe-jersiaise.adlibsoft.com > Photographic Collection (view thumbnails a / or buy)

http://planefacts.co.uk/nav/jersey_scenes/index.htm interesting content, though presentation is a bit sloppy

I’d be very interested to hear how you get on.

    Regards,

    Hi Pam

Thanks so much. That gives me plenty to keep me going. Walter's father William T Sebire was actually born on Alderney so it looks as though the whole family must have island hopped over a number of years.

    Grateful for your help.

    Kind regards

    Robinetta
