    Default Emigration Records 1880/1881

Recently we have discovered a family member that left Sheffeld, Yorkshire (where all of the family resided, and still does) to go to America with her husband. The trail goes cold after this; Could anyone give us any free websites or ideas of how to find the records of emigration or census in America?

We are members of Ancestry, yet as you'll know, the World membership is not cheap!

    Any help would be appreciated

    Thanks!

Wife and Husband; James & Fanny

Surname has been listed as Parkinson, Parsisson, Parsonson, Parsons etc, which makes it difficult!

Have got two daughters, Helen (15) and Sarah (10)

    Arrived in America 1880/1881

    Thankyou very much

    Hi Bobbin,

Have had a look and nothing seems to hit the eye, will try again later, unless someone else picks up on it.

That's the feeling I'm getting to.

I have no idea where they are!

    Thanks for searching though!

    Yes.

    Fanny was born in 1850

    James was born around 1846

In the England 1871 census, they are listed as 'Parkinson' with a daughter, Helen, aged 5, and a second daughter, Sarah, aged 5 months.

Fanny's maiden name was Thompson. The family has been listed as Parsison, Parsisson, and Parkinson, hence why I think they're so hard to find! Both parents are from Sheffield, and James was a blade grinder in the Steel industry.

    Thanks for all your help

    Dear Bobbin,

I am a direct descendant of James Parsisson and Fanny Thompson, who came to America. I know that they arrived after the 1880 US census and before the 1881 UK census. The 1890 US census was destroyed by fire, so the first census any of the family appears on is the 1900 census. James died in 1882 and Fanny remarried in 1886 to William Porter. If would you like any additional information, I have information on all the descendants of James and Fanny.

    Yours in genealogy,

    Mark
