Thread: Rieck, Denmark - looking to find

Hi, I am looking for information regarding the Rieck Family of Tranakear on Langeland, Denmark. My great grandfather Peter Jacob Nielsen Rieck just turns up in Australia in the 19th century. His marriage certificate names his parents as Wilhelm and Christina, but apart from that, and the name of the village he came from (which has been passed down orally - his naturalisation papers - 1886 - just say Copenhagen, arrived Melbourne aged 19), I know nothing about his forebears. No searches I have done so far seem terribly helpful and Rieck is generally turning up people in Germany, rather than Denmark (though I have recently discovered it is the 911th favourite name in Denmark, lol). He married a girl from Ararat which is in the Sheep wheat area of Victoria, so am wondering if he was on a grain ship ... so any suggestions about searching grain ship crew records would be useful also.



So if anyone out there knows anything I would appreciate hearing about it.

Hi thanks, yes, I had looked there but the danish section only lists microfilm numbers with no information as to years or locations so not terribly helpful. similarly the IGI and other normal sources are unhelpful. I have managed to establish that there is currently a Flemming Rieck working at the Langeland Museum so if all else fails I will try to get in touch with him through professional contacts, but would rather not bother a colleague if he is not a relation at all ... sigh
