Thread: Gladwell/Church

Some help please, possibly via the 1841 to 1861 censuses for both of the following:

Chenery Gladwell, born in Ashbocking, Bosmere District either in 1818 or 1838; thought to have married

Hannah Church from Crowfield (also Bosmere District) when she was 17!

Information on free sites is conflicting, am trying to firm up details.

NB. Daughter Elizabeth (Maternal Grandfathers Mother) had 17 children if this helps!

Seems he is "married" to a Charlotte on this Census but checking for the marriage for Chenery Gladwell 1850 2nd Qtr Vol 10 Pg 381

The name that comes up with his is a Harriet Rosbrooke... curious and more curious..

Now I have found yet another marriage for him

1855 Jun Qtr Bosmere Vol 4a Pg 665 a Hannah Church appears on the same page.

Have been doing more searching... the Harriet Rosbrooke married a Chenery Gladwell born about 1823, in Cockfield. I have found them on the 1851 Census... This Chenery is an Ag Lab. So we can disregard this bit.



Still can't find a marriage for Chenery to a Charlotte but have found a death for a Charlotte Gladwell in 1853

found it.... the marriage for Chenery to Charlotte..

Checked the IGI and there was a submitted entry for

Chenery Gladwell marrying a Charlotte Taylor 5 Aug 1844 in Ashboking.

Then checked on Ancestry to see if I could find anything more positive and there it is..

The way I read it is that Charlotte was his first wife dying in 1853 and Hannah his second; marrying in 1855. This is indeed a revelation. For info Elizabeth (my maternal Grandfather's Mother) was born to Chenery and Hannah in 1873. Brilliant detective work if I may say so!
