    Default lost grandmother

my grandmother.winifred buckley, gave birth to my father-john edward buckley in cowes, isle of wight dec 1916/17.

grandfather listed on bith cert' as unknown.

older relatives met her once and are convinced she was irish.

the only other fact i know about her she was a domestic servant.

dad was fostered out to an english family in herefordshire named smith.

if there is anybody out there who can point me in the right direction i would appreciate it very much,as i am at a loss where to start.

Do you know your granmothers age when she had your father?

You could look at 1901 census to see if your grandmother appears there? If she doesn't it could well be she was from/in Ireland at that point.
