Thread: John Calderbank born c.1868

I have my ggf John Calderbank on the 1901 Sligo, Ireland census being 33 years & born in England. I have his marriage cert to my ggm Kate Gordon. They married in 1895 in Mullingar. Ireland in the Catholic Cathedral. John's occupation is given as a 'Soldier'. There are too many John Calderbank births in 1860's in England to determine which one he could be, therefore my query is this; how far can I go to find out how/why/where he could have been a solider in Ireland in the 1890's and perhaps be able from this to track down a date of birth?

Hi Raven, his father's name was also John Calderbank - he is deceased on the cert (1895) & although dead, his occupation is given as Boiler Maker. As an aside the county where John jnr married was Co. Westmeath, if this helps with the soldier angle.
