Hi John. I knew of Gray's In "Auld Reekie" when I was young. I can't remember now if they lived in the Cannongate or the Abbey Hill area. This is going back to early fourties to my last visit in 1950. When Hib's had a great football team. My memory of them is vague now unfortunately. I do recall there was old granny Gray, My childhood memory would put her at about 90 at the time(1950) There was Johnny (about 45) Lilly or Lally (about 40) Two young lads, Ronnie (about 9/10) John (about 7/9). There was also a Margaret (Peggy) Gray, who was my mothers best friend from childhood. Peggy would have been about 56 then. She was married to a Jim Irvine, he worked in the coal mine at Danderhall (?) They had a son Richard & daughter Margaret. At that time they lived in Pitlocherie Place, Abbey Hill. As with my mothers fammily (Sordon) they all had reletives that had migrated to Canada & USA. Many of them came back to fight in the Ist World War.

I don't think I have many relations in Scotland now, but, one never knows.

    All the best .... Jimbo.

Many thanks Jimbo for your reply. Sorry to say we are not related!! I shall double check just to make sure as there are a couple of names that are in the family.

Thanks again from a cold and wet Auld Reekie,

    John

    Hi:

I am a great grandson of Alexander Gray's older brother, Rev. Patrick Gray 1819-1876, who moved to Canada in 1845. I am also in recent contact with Alexander Gray's great grandson, Donald Gray, in the USA. I expect you to be a descendant of their brother, James Gray, born about 1828. Hope to hear from you.

    Steve Gray
