Thread: SOLOMON of Bridgewater / Cannington / Brushford, Somerset

I have been searching for Thomas Cunningham of Durham and it seems he

married into the Solomon family - he married his cousin I think as his

father was also married to a Solomon.



I have recently found out that Henry Solomon and his wife Ann had four

children - Elizabeth, Henry, Jane and Eliza all born in Cannington

between 1815 and 1823.



Searches have shown that their father Henry was born c1781 in

Cannington (I think his parents were William and Mary), and their

mother Ann was born in Brushford c1781.



I am now trying to trace the marriage between Henry Solomon and Ann. I

have looked in places that I know of for both Cannington and Brushford

to no avail and wondered if someone could perhaps help me please

I can have a look in the Cannington registers at the weekend - not sure about Brushford though

I have looked through a great site for West someset http://www.wsom.org.uk/ but not found anything in either Canninton or Brushford - nothing showing up on IGI either in this area

Well done Light - I have always used the site quite a lot and looked on there for Henry's marriage but missed it - how I don't know - yet another senior moment I suppose

HI,

My Great grandmother on my Fathers maternal side, was Eliza Solomon, born in the Somerset area, she also had a younger brother called Henry. Eliza was disinherited from the family for marrying my Grandfather, who was a merchant seaman from the Caribbean.

They went on to have 5 children, including my Grandmother, Eileen Gomez (1933-85)and her siblings; Vera, Margaret, Paul and Joseph, who were raised in Bridgewater during the 1920's and 1930's. In fact, her eldest sister, Vera was the first child of "colour" to be registered in the Parish.

I wonder if any of this may help, or that you could point me in an exciting direction.
