    Default Nobbs of Gorleston/Yarmouth

Hello all, hopefully this is an easy one for you, if they made it onto the censuses...

Looking for information on the family of John Nobbs and Jemima nee Hunn. Jemima was born in 1779 in Runham, Norfolk, but don't know about John (his mother-in-law's will stated he was a schoolmaster of Gorleston, yet Jemima was living in Great Yarmouth). They had at least three children:

    - George Nobbs Hunn (1799, Runham -1884), who later in life changed his name to G. Hunn Nobbs and was a well-known pastor and school teacher on Norfolk and Pitcairn Islands, yet claimed he was the illegitimate son of the peerage.

    - Charlotte Nobbs, born 1801, Gt Yarmouth

    - Jemima Nobbs, born 1802, Gt Yarmouth

Hoping someone can locate them and perhaps even some potential matches for Charlotte and Jemima, so I can track them down too.

    Thanks in Advance

    Baz

tree on ancestry has charlotte marrying

    1823 1 Nov Age: 22 Gorleston Suffolk

    Marriage to James Burman

and has her living in great yarmouth in 1851

    1851 Age: 50

    Row 19 Great Yarmouth

    and living until 1883

which seems to fit so might need more research - no other details about family though

    Thanks Welshlady

Any luck with censuses (now looking for Burmans too). Can't be sure whether 1844 Jemima is mother or daughter...

with regards to jemima i cant find her so was wondering if the 1844 death is her . would need to buy certificate to find out - though she should still be on 141 census. was wondering if the other death in 1895 is the mother ( born approx right time ) - again would need cert to be sure.

with regards to charles - you said he went out to pacific area ann was famous . when did he go- is that who you are descended from?

i foudn this census for 1861 but assume that is not him

Name: Charles Hunn Birth: abt 1795 - Yarmouth, Norfolk, England Residence: 1861 - Norwich St Peter Mancroft, Norfolk, England

a lot of people on ancestry have him in their tree like this but note different birthplace and different parents. the father francis rawdon being govenor of malta and grnadson of sir john rawdon of moira house county down which would be where the tales of nobility are from i assume.

Name: Rev George Hunn Nobbs Birth: 16 Oct 1799 - Moira, Down, IrelandDeath: 5 Nov 1884 - Norfolk IslandParents: Francis Rawdon, Jemima French Spouse: Sarah Christian

    Excellent!! D

I'm not really interested in going back more, but rather forward. This is part of a 'Hunn' tree, and these are a separate branch to my connection. With regard to George Hunn Nobbs, we believe he falsified his ancestry to make an impression at Pitcairn Island. And I've got quite a bit on him already, from several people. Concentrating on his sisters now...

I was hoping you'd be able to track down some of Charlotte's children in the other censuses. What I've got so far (with your help!) is:

    - Ellen Jemima (1827, Gt Yarmouth) m. 1845, Gt Yarmouth; David Lewis von Biema [Catherine's (=Jane Andreson) parents]. Name seems to have been changed to LEWES

    - Emma Elizabeth (1829, Gt Yarmouth) m. 1862, Newcastle; John Henry Parr m. 1877, Newcastle; James Patterson Stewart

    - Clarissa Susannah (1831, Gt Yar'th - 1895, Tynemouth) m. 1860; Claus Friedrich Pluns, m. 1867; Jan Ubben Gowers

    - Emily Charlotte (1836, Gt Y - 1922, Newcastle) m. 1856, Newcastle; Samuel Shepherd

    - James Henry (1844, Gt Yar'th - 1893, Tynemouth) m. 1866, Tynemouth; Charlotte Cowell

    [And grandchildren if possible]

Thanks Heaps, I hope I haven't overwhelmed you!

    I owe you....

    Baz
