Thread: Searching for birthplace of Catherine Hunt

Hope someone can help. I am searching for my Grandmother's birth place. Catherine Hunt. Married John Ludden in 1902 at St. Patricks Church in Oldham.Her Father was Thomas Hunt but don't know Mother's name.Catherine lived in Oldham for most of her life but she has Irish connections and may have been born in Ireland.John Ludden, ( my Grandfather ) was born in Newport Shropshire in 1870 if that is any help.Catherine died about 1947 ,John Ludden died 1916 .War in France'.

No signs of a birth in Oldham. As she was married there in 1902, it seems likely she would have been there in 1901. The only possibility I can find is a Cathaline Hunt (but looking at the image it is probably Catharine) in Oldham age 25 domestic servant in a household headed by George Thorp inkeeper. Place of birth is recorded as Staffordshire Coldport.

Does the marriage certificate have an occupation and/or address?

Re Catherine Hunt. On marriage certificate her address was 124 Rochdale Rd. Oldham and her occupation was Domestic Service.Her age was 28 yrs. when she married in Oldham.My Mother often mentioned Staffordshire saying she had relatives there but never mentioned where Grandmother was born.Fingers crossed , I think we are on the right track (I hope!)

If 'your' Catherine was born in Staffordshire there's this birth.



Catherine Hunt, 1875, Apr-Jun qrt, Wolstanton Staffordshire.



The only other one born around that time in Staffs. was registered in 1877, Jan-Mar qrt, Stoke upon Trent, which fits better with place of birth Coalport.

Do you have Catherine and John's marriage certificate, and if so what was Thomas Hunt's occupation, and who were the witnesses? This info may help in the search.

On Catherine and John's marriage Certificate the Witnesses were Thomas Ludden and Mary Walsh.Thomas Hunt, her Father, was a Coalminer.
