hi i am trying to locate any existing family of ADA LILIAN BUTCHER.she was born in SOUTHWARK in 1915 and her parents were JAMES DAVID BUTCHER and ADA LOUISE SHELDRICK.her paternal grandparents were JAMES JOHN BUTCHER and ELLEN ELIZABETH HOUGH.her maternal grandparents were FREDERICK JAMES SHELDRICK and ELLEN SARAH EASTOP.the address she was at when she was born was 16 DEVERELL STREET NEWINGTON NORTH SOUTHWARK. any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

Ada L Butcher 1940 1st Qtr

Spouse name O'Grady

Lambeth

Vol 1d Pg 605

Have checked O'Grady births with a mother's maiden name of Butcher but nothing is jumping out at me...



I did find that her spouse's name was William J O'Grady.



There is a death on the CWGC for a William Joseph O'Grady, Civilian Casualty.

He was an Ambulance driver. The date of death was 21 April 1940. Death index is William J O'Grady 1941 2nd Qtr Lewisham Vol 1d Pg 1240.

thanks for that. its a bit more than i had.the reason im trying to locate this particular family is that in 1943 ada gave birth to a daughter who she had adopted.her child is my partners mother.wer trying to locate any members of the family to reunite them.if anyone can help me with this or give me any sites i can look on i would really appreciate it.like i said ADA LILIAN BUTCHER gave birth to a daughter in feb of 1943.her given name at birth was MARGARET ROSE BUTCHER and she had her adopted.

As Ada had a child in 1943 and still gave her name as Butcher I don't think the above marriage can be the right one.

1st quarter 1949 marriage Ada L Butcher to Frederick C Denton - Lambeth 5c 2533

You would probably be best to get the marriage certificate to make sure it's the right Ada before going any further

Hi Tracie - if the marriage turns out to be the right one the couple don't seem to have any children so Ada may have only had the one child.

In which case we may need to search for cousins.

It looks as if Ada had a brother - birth James A Butcher - Southwark 1d 36 - September quarter 1917

It might be worth getting the certificate as the informant is recorded & is likely to be a relative
