    Default Electrol Rolls

    Hiya

I've made a visit to our local library to search their records while there i found some of my relatives in the electrol rolls. Each person had letters at the side of their names depending on how they qualified for the electrol rolls. R = Residence Qualification, O = Occupation qualification, NM = naval or military qualification etc.

Most of the men that i found had R O at the side. 3 of the men had NM, in later years after the war they all just had an R. Does anyone know if this meant they didn't work for a living because there was no O.

    thanks

    Hi N1kky,

Through the war years many men had a RESERVED OCCUPATION so did not serve in the armed forces, this may well explain the R O & just the R when the war was over.

    Hi Dotsharry

    Thanks for replying,

I may not of explained myself properly, it was the gentlemen that had been in the armed forces(NM during war years) that just had the R at the side of their name after the war.

I'm also wondering now if some of the keys for the electoral rolls where different as you say the R means Reserved and on the fiches i was looking at it said it meant Residence.

You'd think i would have been happy at having found people wouldn't you instead i worry about wot all the little letters mean

    Thanks

    Hi N1kky

    Sorry, don't know the answer.

Maybe someone at your local library or registry office could explain,
