Thread: Info on Florrie/Florrey/Florence HOLT

Hi all,

Im trying to find some info on Florrie/Florrey/Flornce HOLT. She married Alfred Burnett b 1880 in Drayton Portsmouth. They married on 27th May 1905 in Wymering Cosham, thou this comes under Fareham district.



Her name for marriage was Florrey Holt, thou census look ups have returned zilch, so I am assuming that birth name was Florence!!.

Parish record for her marriage records her father being a John HOLT a soldier. Age at marriage was 22, so putting birth at around 1883 and she was a spinster. Witnesses were James Lush & Mabel Marsh.



I am thinking of buying the marriage cert, but will this give me any more info than I already have?

Any help, in any way shape or form, gratefully appricated.

PS - Florrey/Florrie/Florence was my great grandmother.

unfortunately ancestry playing up and wont let me look at image to see james profession.

i can see mabel marsh and james lush in 1901 in portsea but no obvious link. mabel appears to be similar age so perhaps friend. james seems to be a bit older.

James is a carpenter on the 1881 and a joiner on the 1891

James Lush I believe married Alice Burnett in 1893 Portsea Island, who was Alfreds sister so think he was witness at brother in laws marriage.



I'm just frustrated about Florrey, I've spoken to my aunt (florrey was her grandmother) and she can't remember anything about her.



Thanks Welshlady & Light, I'm not even sure if Florrey came from Hampshire to be honest, and that makes it harder to find out anything doesn't it



Would it be worth getting Alfred & Florreys marriage cert

The marriage cert would only give you what I think you already have.



It should give address at time of marriage, their ages and the fathers of bride and groom and usually the occupations. Oh and the witnesses..



I think its a nice cert to have if its your main line

Florence May Holt married in 1902, in the 2nd Q at South Stoneham Hampshire, so not the right family unfortunatley

Florrey Holt only throws up her marriage on ancestry.co.uk, not anything else at all

I always buy from the local RO when I can and ask for a scan of the original cert. I have some lovely signatures of my rellis..

looking at it from a different angle and thinking about john holt. as he is not a witness on the marriage i was wondering if he is deceased at that point. looking at the deaths there is a death for a john holt in portsea in 1885 - not sure if that would be too early
