Thread: MARIA TIGHE birth look-up please

On her marriage certificate July 1888

age is Full

Father William, dead

On the 1901 census (April),

Maria gives her age as 35, birthplace England.

On her death certificate, Feb 1939

her age is given as 70, provided by her son William. The original certificate was amended. It had given her age as 76

If I go by the census information, her birth year is 1865/1866.



If I go by the amended death certificate, her birth year is 1868/1869.



I realize we can't always rely on stated ages(). I don't really have any more information re Maria.



Any help to break this brickwall is greatly appreciated!

Maria was living with her husband, John Carroll, in Ireland

195 MountPottinger Road, Belfast, County Down

I have the census record, marriage certificate and the death certificate. Family lore was that she was 77 when she died - who knows. If she lied about her age, then perhaps she was older than her husband



I am not sure if her family lived in England or they happened to be travelling and she was born there.

It's hard to really know what to believe since on the death certificate it specifically states it was amended to reflect the correct age of 70 rather than 77. Family lore is also not really that solid either because it seems many of the family members kept to themselves and did not interact with each other. Is there a way to find out the name of the father without ordering the certificate?

Names: John Carroll & Mary Tighe

Church: St. Matthews

Registrar District: Castlereach (can't read the last 3 letters)

Belfast, County Down

Date: 29 July 1888

Witnesses: Robert John Hanna

Ellen McVeigh

Their first child, Agnes,was born a year later. Both the census record and death certificate give her name as Maria.

I don't really have any more information about her. The person who gave me the information does not know any more and is no longer in contact. Apparently the family either had family ties to Dromora or just vacationed there. I have a photo of her in front of the cottage



I may have just hit a brick wall that I can't climb unless I can find out more about her in Ireland, but not sure how with the limited information I have.
