Thread: William Ryan adopted ? Military service ?

Granddad was born 1/4/1893 in Bradford and shortly after abandoned and left in a Catholic orphanage. He appears in the 1901 census as "Willie Ryan" adopted, in Hemsworth. He served at some point in the AVC but was a coal miner in April 1916 when he married my Grandma Ruth Mallison. That's all I have for his first 23 years, I've been to Kew and I've written to everybody I can think of. If any body can find anything else to fill in the gaps I would be very grateful (and surprised). Thanks, Alan.

1911 census there is a William Ryan b 1893 bradford living in Hemsworth who could be a possibility -you need credits to look at the full entry

Thanks Harryman, he's a pony driver at a colliery in 1911 living at the address mentioned on his marriage cert. I'm following up a theory that he may have been involved with the tunnel companies at the moment, I don't know if I'll get very far though. Alan.
