Hi!,

I'm having problems trying to find a "MORDECAI BENNETT" he was born about 1771 in Birmingham/Warwickshire. In 1790 he joined the East India Company, & went out to the Island of St Helena.

Where he joined the St Helena Infantry, in 1791 he went out to Fort St George at Madras in India. He served out there until 1796 when he came back to the Island of St Helena, & joined the St Helena Artillery. Some how he had a Name change to "Morris/Maurice Bennett.

Why the name change I don't know why???? he died on the Island in 1827 age 56yrs. I can't find his Birth/Baptism here in England, I have check it out but with no joy!! "Mordecai" is a Hebrew name! was he Jewish?????? I have found nobody with any of the above first names! I'm trying to find his UK ancestors! I have a full family history down from him, up to date. Is there any one out there who can help me find my wife's UK ancestors please. I'm at a Brick Wall with this!!!! I would be most grateful for any help please!
