    Default Gould Brood- Barnsley, Yorkshire

    Hello,

I'm having rather a lot of trouble with a family of 5 sisters and a brother who were born in the Barnsley/West Riding area.

As far as I know the brother was the youngest sibling and died fairly young. He was only known as Sonny - not sure of any registered name

I believe that the maiden name of their mother was Pinhorn and the girls were Marjorie, Roma, Elizabeth (Betty), Doris M. E(C1922), Patricia M. (C1925) but apparently some may have swopped their middle names after birth just to confuse things further.

If anyone can locate any possibilities for birth records (or anything!!) I would be grateful as my eyes are a little exhausted after last nights efforts

Hope to hear from some kind soul.

Update - there is a sixth sister! Joan Lillian or Lillian Joan who married Alfred Callus.

    Patricia was the youngest sister.

Thanks to some help over the phone I can confirm that the mothers maiden name was Pinhorn. Marjorie Bertha (1909 - 1998) and Eleanor (Roma 1910 - 1993) were born in Leicester. Joan Lilian (1912 - 1985) was born in the district of Ecclesall B. Doris M E was born in Barnsley in 1922 and Patricia M was born in Barnsley in 1925.

This still leaves the brother whom I was told was the youngest. However, I have found a birth entry for a Henry C T Gould in 1915 of Ecclesall B mothers maiden name Pinhorn. (Would have been known as Sonny)

I have tried to find a death registration for Henry to confirm if he died young, possibly around 16 to 20 years old so that I can narrow it down but have failed. Could anyone have a scout around and see if they could be more successful?

That leaves one more sister Elizabeth (Betty) Gould to find also.

I am determined to solve this little mystery.... x

    Thank you for that

I have also found Sonny now - he was 15 when he died (drowned)

I wondered what the 'B' was in the registration district. Do you happen to know where that district covers?

Aha! Now things are making sense, I have a vague recollection of West Riding being mentioned many years ago

    Thanks again
