    Default Youells Family, Norfolk

    Hi

    I am looking for any help to point me in the right direction. I am researching the Youells family from Norfolk, but have hit a brick wall. There are hundreds of Youells' but I cannot prove a link to my direct line. The surname has many and varied spellings ranging from Ules/Ewles/Ewells etc etc. This particular family seem to have confined themselves to the Sloley/Worstead area and proving ties to others in the locale is difficult.

    Any suggestions gratefully received.

    Hi,

    Thanks for replying.

    I am looking for help with Sophia Ules, born abt 1805 in Worstead. Her parents were William and Sarah (nee Grimes). In 1841 she is living with Thomas Rump and their children, whose surnames were Rump Youells. I am not sure if they were ever married. The Rump Youells surname only lasted one generation and in subsequent generations the 'Rump' has been dropped. In 1881 Sophia is living with her grandson George, born abt 1864, but I cannot find who George's parents were.

    I am sure that there must be other siblings that I have missed.

    Any help will be welcome.

    Hi,

    This is George in 1871. It doesn't help with finding his parents' as he is boarding with the '

    Longs'

    Name: George Ewells Age: 7 Estimated Birth Year: abt 1864 Relation: Boarder Gender: Male Where born: Worstead, Norfolk, England Civil Parish: Worstead County/Island: Norfolk Country: EnglandRegistration district: Smallburgh Sub registration district: Smallburgh

    George Ewells 7 James Long 42 Sarah Long 27

    All born Worstead

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    I have found George on the 1891 and 1901 census, however they are no help, as he's not living with family.
    Hi again,
    This looks like George's birth
    Births Tunstead Norfolk 1864 Jan-Mar qrt.
    George Youels (it is spelt like that)
    And if you'd like to send for the certificate the reference you'll need is...
    Vol 4b page 52.
    Thank you very much. I will send for the certificate as it may well open up other avenues. I thought that with a name like Youells my research may have been easy, but I was wrong! If there are any details on Sophia and her siblings available I would be grateful for any news.
    Another question (it may be a stupid one) - I have a Youells that was killed during WWI in France/Flanders and is commemorated on a Roll of Honour for Worstead. He doesn't appear to have a death certificate. I have checked the qtrs for the year that he was killed and wonder if this could be because there may not have been a body to bury.
    Hi,
    Can you give more details of your relative killed in France, ie full name DOB etc.
    I'll see if I can find any info on Sophia and her family. Get back to you later, after dinner.
    Sorry -I'm new to this and it's a steep learning curve.
    The soldier was Herbert Ernest Youells, son of Thomas and Emma (nee Cleeton). He was born 2nd qtr 1892 in Worstead. He was killed on 4th Oct 1918.
    Hi Mand.
    I have found the "Debt of Honour" certificate for Herbert Ernest Youells, he was in "The Royal Irish Rifles" I.M. me if you would like a copy.
    Brummie.
    Edited to say; Have now found his medal card. Herbert first enlisted in the Norfolk Regiment, and was then transfered to the Royal Irish Rifles.
