    Default Birth Look-Up

Could somebody please look-up a birth for me please.

    Christopher H Mason

he died on the R101 in 1830 aged 33 (correction should be 1930)

On the R101 site it states he was born Harringay, Middlesex.

There is confusion in the family as some say he was the brother of my grandmother Caroline Mason, but if that is the case his mother would have been 50 years old when she had him! I would like to get his birth certificate to confirm who his parent's were, and where he fits into my tree.

    Many thanks - Teresa

    Hi Teresa,

If he died age 33 in 1830 you will not be able to get a birth certificate for him as Statutory registration did not start until Sep 1837. You will need to find him on the parish registers.

    Sorry - should be 1930 not 1830.

Thank you Nanna - do you think Edmonton would cover the area of Harringay. When I looked up Harringay it seems to come under Paddington!!

    Kind regards Teresa

    Hi Teresa,

Edmonton Registration District was created 1/7/1837, was abolished 1/4/1965 and was succeeded by Enfield and Haringey.

    Hope this answers your question.

If it helps, Harringay and Haringey are not the same thing. But that's a long story. In 1830 Harringay was still somewhat interchangeable with Hornsey in the borough bearing the latter name.

The use of Harringay may have intended a reference to Harringay House - a large manor house on the edge of the Borough of Hornsey.

Confused? You wouldn't be the only one. See my Wikipedia article for more.
