    Hi dave,

Have checked 1841 & 1861 Cencus returns without trace, maybe someone can check 1851 returns(I don't have access to these).

Failing that, I'm afraid the only way of finding out for sure is to acquire a copy of the Marriage certificate.

Like Nanna says the marriage cert seems to be the only way.

    To;- Light;Nanna; and Notebook,

Many grateful thanks for your contributing replies regarding above ancestor of mine, referring back to my initial inquiry, yesterday I visited Wakefield Archives HQ, and actually viewed a microfiche copy image of William's marriage certificate to a Margaret Thompson in Sept 1840, this also gives their respective Father's names as David Gigham and William Thompson. Have spent a couple of hours today searching for any info about the Fathers, but so far nothing found. I have come across a Joseph and Jane Gigham back in the late 1780's, which could be a "hot" clue! Ah well, on with the search.

    Best Regards,

    DaveL

    Hi, Light; Nanna; Notebook,

Further to your replies and my answering post ref above, have spent many hours this week down at Wakefield Archives, viewing microfiche's and going through reference books, and am 99% satisfied that:- William & Margaret Gigham at Brag Lane End,Stanley., and William & Margaret Giggal at Bragg Lane, Stanley are the same married couple. Can only presume that the person of many years ago who transcribed the records, misread some bad unclear writing, hence the name differences. I'm now having problem finding a David Gigham (William's Father), estimated to have got married latter end of 1814 and onward's, Have gone "goggle-eyed" viewing both birth and marriage microfiche's, to find him - but no luck up to now. Any forthcoming directional hints regarding David Gigham, I'll be very very much obliged for.

A tip for fellow searcher's in case they aren't aware, when viewing microfiche's, occasionally you see an X mark, where a signature should be, I'm informed this infers some people couldn't write, in those days!

    Best Regards,

    DaveL
