Thread: lookup-Elizabeth Shackleton circa 1845, poss. Bingley

Could someone perhaps help me with this look-up. I am looking for the parents of an Elizabeth Shackleton, born circa 1845, but not exactly sure where. She married William Henry Orton in the October quarter of 1861, in Skipton. Her birth place is recorded as being in Bingley.



I tried looking her up on FreeCen 1841 census, but there isn't an Elizabeth listed among the Shackletons, but I did notice that a number of them that were listed were showing things like Aberdeenshire, and England and such.



As best I know, the family itself was prominent in the Warwickshire area especially between the 1500-1700's from what I gather on FreeReg parish records, but I have been stymied at finding this Elizabeth.



If anyone could help, it would be much appreciated. Thank you.

Edit: Just realized it would be unlikely to find someone born 1845 on a 1841 census. Duh! So I checked the 1851 and didn't find any Shackletons at all. So I checked the 1861 and all I could find was one likely, if she was born 1845 as being from Pontefract, Copluss Hill, Elizabeth, Head, born 1795 a Laundress from South Milford, Yorkshire, with a grandaughter of Elizabeth born 1847 in Pontefract.



I still do not know if this is my Elizabeth, especially as I know she was in fact married in 1861 in Skipton to William Henry. That would seem to make 14 way too early to be married, and nothing else comes close.

Hi, I have found a Elizabeth shackleton on IGI batch numbers she was christened in Bingley 19 Jan 1845 her parents were William and Sarah . I don't know if it is the one you are looking for or not . I shall carry on looking later my computer for some reason has stopped loading . Have you used this site ? I have found a lot of my relatives on it . Anne

Hi ,again could it be 1835 there was a Elizabeth christened 13 Dec 1835 in Bingley parents John & Ann . There are two more 1844 & 1847 . Anne

There is someone with a tree on Ancestry who is researching your family.

Elizabeth Shackleton married William H Orton 1861 she was born about 1846 and died 24th July 1914 Bingley. Apparently there is a vault for the family, not sure if it for the Shackletons or the Ortons. William H born 1841 died 1929.

Elizabeth was the daughter of John and Ann. No maiden name was given for Ann but I found a marriage between a John Shackleton and Ann Ford Dec 1/4 1840 Bradford vol 23 page 232.
