As Lily was born after the last available Cencus, you will need to acquire a copy of her Birth Certificate to determine who her parent's were.

Do you have the reference No. for the registration ? if so you can apply at http://www.statistics.gov.uk/ when you receive the certificate, let us know the details and then we can help you further with your research.

Hi Lily - unfortunately there are a few Lily Birtwistles born around that time in Lancashire. Do you know where in Lancs she was born? How sure are you of her date of birth? If you are only guessing it might be best to start by getting the marriage certificate - this should give you her age and name of her father which would be a good start.
