Thread: (A) Sarah Gigham - born in Barnsley,(B) John & Rebecca Shaw.

Help and or clues in tracing (A) Sarah Gigham, according to a census print out I have for 1871, she was 22 years old - giving her birth year 1859, have explored several avenue's, but can't confirm this, also have info indicating she was born in 1847, either register's have mixed dates up, or something more fishy!!



(B) John Shaw born Sheffield 1792, married to Rebecca in Barnsley around 1816, I guess., any directional hints to follow will be much appreciated.

the only Sarah Gigham I can see on the 1871 Census is married to John and she is aged 24.. born in Bratton West, yorkshire.. is this her ?

If she was 22 on the 1871 Census as you say...her year of birth would be c1848.



Dave do you have the piece, folio and page number for the census printout you have??

Thanks for your response ref Sarah Gigham, last week "Light" passed me message saying Sarah born 1847, I checked with Wakefield Registry office -they confirmed this Sarah married my Great Great Grandfather in 1976, on the 1881 census her age is given as 22, (sorry I quoted census year wrong), when she became Sarah Parkinson, confirmation of the marriage is in volume 9c page 109, one can only conclude either she left John Gigham or he left her, or something else happened!

I found a death for a Sarah A Gigham 1891 1st Qtr Hemsworth Vol 9c Pg 95..











Update: don't think this is her now... Cos if she married your GGrandfather in 1876 she would be Sarah Parkinson on the 1881. Sorry me getting confuddled I think ...lol
